Sunday Sketches - Strawberry

Welcome to Sunday Sketches! Today's piece is entitled 'Strawberry' done on cardstock (4 1/2" x 6 1/2") with my permanent markers, outlined with a fine point black marker. It's based on a photo I took of a strawberry I saw in my garden the other day, hiding under the leaves.  It was not fully developed.

Alexandra is closing Sunday Sketches after a 9 year run, we thank her and will miss the co-op.

Sunday Sketches - Toronto Skyline at Dusk

Welcome to Sunday Sketches! This piece is called 'Toronto Skyline at Dusk', inspired by a photo I saw. It's done on heavy paper (8 1/2" x 11") using my permanent markers, outlined with a fine point black marker. I am showing the photo as well as a scan, the scan did not do justice to the 'sorbet' pink that I used.

Sunday Sketches - Jabot

Welcome to Sunday Sketches! I saw a photo of this Jabot and was inspired to draw it. It is an early form of the necktie and it is so beautiful, I wish it would make a comeback perhaps in formal dress. The piece is done on an index card (3" x 5") in water soluble brush markers.

Sunday Sketches - Antique Shelf

For Sunday Sketches, I did this Antique Chinese shelf on cardstock (4 1/2" x 6 1/2") using my sketch markers. I got the idea when I was at a Chinese dim sum lunch recently and saw these shelves on display in the restaurant, storing these cute teapots.  They wouldn't be more than 2 feet by 4 feet in size.  Needless to say, I was trying to think of what I should paint next and was happy for the inspiration.

Sunday Sketches - Pensive

Happy Easter if you celebrate!

It's time for Sunday Sketches! This is a pensive girl today. The piece is done on an index-sized card (3" x 5") using my new sketching markers and outlined with a PILOT fineliner. The sketching markers are permanent markers that bleed through the paper, so I had to be careful. Unfortunately they stayed on my fingers for awhile!  They have a nice rich colour that I love and can blend nicely, but that's something to try on another day.

Sunday Sketches - Greeting Cards

Shutterfly had a free offer recently so I had these 12 greeting cards (5" x 7") printed of some of my recent work. Taking advantage of their free offers, I just have to pay the postage. Canadian postage rates are expensive unfortunately. I was very happy with the way these turned out and decided to show them for this week's Sunday Sketches!

Sunday Sketches - Cake

Welcome to Sunday Sketches! This cake piece is done on good quality textured dark blue card stock in acrylic (6" x 6"). If I have it printed up as greeting cards they could be used for weddings or birthdays.  I'm very conscious of adding some depth these days so I decided to add the black background.

Sunday Sketches - Red Mohair

This is a red mohair coat for Sunday Sketches. I saw a pretty pink one in a fashion magazine when I was at the hairdresser the other day. I changed it to red as I am also linking to Art Journal Journey's 'Fifty Shades of Red' theme. It's done in my art journal (8 1/2" x 11") in watercolour pencil.
