Unsettling

My daughter works for a global company, she has a co-worker from the Czech Republic.  He told her it is like world war 3 over there, being close neighbours of Ukraine.  People are walking down the streets looking for shelter, in fact he has taken in a bunch of people knocking on his door.  He said 'how do you turn away a woman and a baby?'  They even promise to pay when they get their money out.  These are not beggars they are people caught in a crisis.  All his neighbours are doing the same for the many desperate people walking down the streets.  At this point you forget about the neighbour across the street that you don't get along with.   Apparently neighbouring Poland is full of refugees and they are spilling into the Czech Republic.

Daughter L has a pilot friend who was working recently in the Congo for several months.  She asked about Covid over there.  He told her that is the least of their problems.  It is such a poor country the people are more worried about starvation and struggle to simply survive.  It is an eye-opening experience.  My nephew said similar things on his visit to Africa a few years ago on a student trip.

It is unsettling to hear of these stories, we are living in a different world (for now).  Husband M was just telling me people are back to booking travel to sun destinations now that Covid is in remission over here.

And we have a Viking Cruise in May that had been postponed TWICE since we bought into it. It's to the Scandinavian countries and was going to spend 2 days in St. Petersburg. Good grief! That's been cancelled. BUT, I don't know what will happen with the other countries like Finland and Poland that we're also supposed to be visiting. This cruise is cursed. My heart is broken for the poor people in Ukraine. It's all madness.

What's happening in the Ukraine is heartbreaking! I'm glad there are neighbouring areas taking in the displaced Ukrainians. This war is so wrong on many levels. :'(

It was as if the pandemic put us on pause, but the struggles keep growing. We do live in a messed-up world. Thanks for writing about the realizations.

So many bad things are happening. And the world is in a crisis, but some still find a way to go on their travels. Yet with so much bad problems in the world these two things collide from time to time. Truly, we do have to be better neighbors.

It's amazing to see so many without their mask now. I think of the president's address and how no one was wearing a mask. It is so scary these days. It's always been scary; it just hadn't touched many of us until now.

The Ukraine war is unsettling because it is unpredictable. There are other unsettling event like the truck convoy and all their right wing friends.

it surely is shocking. I just cannot comprehend the inhumanity, but these stories, of taking people in, are heartwarming.
Thank you for sharing this story.
Our kids are going to Florida to visit the other grandparents. I'm worried.

We wanted a normal life for our children and our grandchildren and it seems like it's evaporating before our eyes.

So disturbing. I saw a video of people bringing flowers and offering gifts to Ukranian people getting off of trains and such -....they were offering their homes for shelter.
