My sister brought me these Perilla leaves and Korean chili peppers from her friend's garden. She is house sitting while they are on vacation and was asked to pick produce from her garden. I have never had these leaves before. They are in the mint family and used in Korean cuisine. My sister's friend loves them, not my sister.
My sister said I could use them in salads or even wrap them around some meat which is what I did as pictured above. I put some mayonnaise in between the leaves as well. The leaves had a very mild taste. The peppers are slightly hot, but were very fresh having been picked the same day. The red ones were hotter as I would have expected. I was happy try something new and now I can say I have had perilla leaves.
I gave some to my friend S who said she would put them in her salads. Husband M tasted everything but decided to eat his regular food after that.
And welcome to October!
